Solutions tailored to address challenges effectively and ensure implementation feasibility.
Established in 1981 in Gujarat, Utthan is a nonprofit organisation dedicated to empowering vulnerable communities to self-organise, take leadership roles, and address critical issues impacting their lives. The organisation focuses on equipping women and young girls with the necessary perspectives, resources, and tools to amplify their voices, exercise control over resources and entitlements, and assert bodily autonomy. Utthan collaborates closely with governmental bodies to drive systemic improvements and influence policy dialogue, fostering sustainable change at both the community and institutional levels. The organisation’s key focus areas include Gender Equity, Sustainable Agriculture, Entrepreneurship Development, Natural Resource Management, and Drinking Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene.
Utthan encountered challenges in effectively showcasing its impact and streamlining operations, hindering visibility, resource mobilisation, and efficiency.
Utthan had established four women’s collectives or federations to empower communities and foster social transformation. While these collectives achieved significant grassroots impact, they faced a major challenge due to the lack of dedicated websites. This absence of an online presence limited their ability to showcase their achievements effectively, resulting in reduced visibility and difficulties in mobilising resources or engaging with donors and partners.
Additionally, Utthan struggled with operational inadequacies because it lacked a centralised Human Resource Management System (HRMS). Retrieving data from multiple sources was time-consuming, and the validation process further delayed operations. These challenges highlighted the need for improved systems to enhance visibility, streamline operations, and strengthen resource mobilisation efforts for both the collectives and the organisation.
The makeMybiz team conducted multiple meetings with Utthan to identify needs, gaps, and specific requirements. Collaborative discussions led to practical, co-created solutions tailored to address challenges effectively and ensure implementation feasibility.
